Great place to take your guinea pigs. I have taken them there for to be neutered. I have also taken my guinea pig when he was super sick yesterday (11/16/2016). Kept him overnight for observation. They were extremely knowledgeable and experienced, caring, and super easy to work with. I won't take my piggies anywhere else.

This practice was recommended to us when our first piggy became seriously ill within 6 days of bringing him home. He had several issues, and we saw Dr Breland weekly for a month (pet store gave me a refund for the entire vet bill, which was VERY reasonable by the way). Unfortunately, he had something wrong with him internally that could not be detected, he recently passed away. That being said, she was WONDERFUL with us and with his care, and was as shocked as we were by his sudden unexpected passing. We now have 2 new baby piggies (afraid of getting another sick piggie, we decided to go through a reputable breeder after contacting our local rescue that had several, and never getting a reply). Dr Breland went above and beyond to help us with our piggie, and if we have to seek vet care for the two new boys, we will definitely take them to see her. This clinics prices fall right in line with the clinic where I take my dogs. Appts were never rushed and any and all questions we asked as newbie owners, she was happy to answer and give advice.

The clinic was wonderful to him and they made us feel comfortable. Potato's heart stopped beating and he stopped breathing while under anesthesia but they saved him! I think this is because they had several people in the room all monitoring and checking on one little pig. They helpfully answered all my questions and treated Potato like he was their own :) It was fairly priced and we received an itemized print out that was helpful. I would highly recommend this clinic for piggies and other exotics. We were so worried about Potato, but he was in really good hands.

He suggested we find a vet that dealt with exotics as he feared he wouldn't have the necessary equipment. We called Westbridge and they got us in within two hours of our call. When we arrived, they were very kind, and Dr. Rosamund seemed very professional. She knew how to hold Theodore properly, and prescribed medication suitable for his age and illness (which was a URI). They called us a few days later to check up on how Theodore was. I'll definitely be sticking to this clinic for my guinea pigs!

This is the most caring vet and staff that I have met in a very long time. They helped save the life of my littlest guinea pig when he had a lung infection and had lost so much weight, he was only 1.5 lbs. They promptly answer questions posted to their website and you can see/feel the personal connection they have with the pets and owners alike. I highly recommend this practice to anyone wanting personalized care rather than a "get-em-in, get-em-out" attitude.

I made an appointment here after seeing that the two owner/vets at this hospital were members of the House Rabbit Society and the AEMV. I was scheduled 20 minutes from closing because I had to go home after work and pick up my guinea pig and drive pretty far out of my way to get there (over an hour). When I made the appointment, I made it clear I needed an xray because she may have a stone (blood in urine).

When we get there, 5 minutes late because traffic was awful and we ran into 2 accidents. But 5 minutes isn't bad right? Apparently not to this clinic. The receptionist asked us to wait "to see if the doctor will still see us". After driving over an hour, we looked at each other like, really?? Even if that's the case, why would you say that to us? She came back and said the doctor would see us but they couldn't do any diagnostics because it was "too late in the day". I still have no idea what that means or why they think that was a legitimate excuse. Does everyone run out there door at 7pm regardless of what they're doing? They said they could give me pain meds and we could come back at another time(?!?!). Being such experienced owners, we have every med imaginable to give a guinea pig. As a precaution (if it was an infection), we had already started her on meds. So there was nothing they could do for us. I asked again why they couldn't do an xray, so she went back and got an lvt.

The lvt came out and said "it's too close to the end of the day" AGAIN. And I asked why since an xray only takes a couple minutes. She said they need to sedate her to take an xray!! I said excuse me? Why in the world would you put an ill pig through all that stress? And she gave me some sort of bs answer about it being for their safety and "they'd break their backs" if they weren't sedated. I feel sorry for the girl and whoever fed her this misinformation. She said there's absolutely no way they go against this policy. She also said "we don't know if she needs an xray anyway". I told her I required one because of the blood in her urine. What kind of lvt or vet wouldn't take an xray right off the bat for blood in the urine??

So I beg the question, why would a policy like this be in place when the owners are 2 members of the AEMV and House Rabbit Society? They own the place, why would there be such an uneducated policy in place that can really hurt the animal? Never, in my 18 years, have I been to a vet that EVER required this to be done (and I estimated we've had almost 100 xrays done in the last 10 years). She said "you'll see that the majority of vets have this policy as well". I'm not sure about her, but I never do something just "because everyone else is doing it". What a cop-out excuse. To unnecessarily put my guinea pig at risk like that just to see if she had a stone is incompetence in running a practice as well as the care and anatomy of a guinea pig. Although I never saw a vet here, I know to never set foot in this place, who knows what other bad policies they have in place that could hurt your pet.

I had been going to another vet for my guinea pigs. That vet told me he specialized in guinea pigs. Well that was a bunch of nonsense. I started with 2 pigs. Took both in for lice and my one possible URI. He told me it wasn't a URI just a eye irritation and he probably sneezed from dust. Long story, sorry in advance, took him in about 2 wks later breathing extremely heavy. Gave him a steroid shot and some Bactrim. 2hrs later my pig died. I had got treatment to late. The vet told me it wasn't contagious. Well we had gotten another one and my one original left had the eye irritation at the time. Should of quarantined, but I didn't I know dumb. Well we ran him into the emergency vet once I heard clicking at 11pm on a Saturday night. They said his lungs sounded horrible and gave me baytril. Took him into the regular vet A DAY LATER. He said he sounded normal to him pretty much. Then I noticed my newer one clicking. My husband took him in for me. They said he was perfectly fine and that the clicking I heard was just him gnashing his teeth together....I'm not dumb. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Doman as soon as I could get in. Another vet office referred me to him said he's been seeing them for 30yrs. Dr. Doman confirmed that he indeed had a URI and prescribed him baytril. He explained everything to me and explained about them not producing vitamin c even though I knew that already. Excellent Vet and very helpful.

This facility specializes in "exotics" and that isn't limited to cavies. I have seen folks bring in all sorts of "animals"........including a corn snake. The facility is everything one would wish for excellent care including 24/7 emergency care.

When I learned that Dr. Albin treats the cavies from a nearby rescue, I was sold on taking my cavies to Pieper Olson because of his experience AND his philanthropic work. Dr. Lynne Robbins earns high praise and wheeks from Chester and Maya as well.

We have used their services for everything from having two boars neutered, to emergency after-hours care, to medical care, to routine check-ups. You really can't ask for better care and better service from a facility. Their prices are quite reasonable as well.

Dr. Dan Jordan performed a cystotomy (bladder stone removal)on my guinea pig, and did an excellent job. He and his staff were very competent and caring, and the cost was one-sixth of that quoted by the big exotic animal hospital in Houston. Though not board-certified in exotic medicine, Dr. Jordan has a number of exotic pets as patients. The continuous loop of patient pictures displayed on the TV system in his office showed a number of guinea pigs, ferrets, chinchilla, rats, mice, hamsters, and other small furries.

I have searched everywhere for a vet that actually knows anything about Guinea Pigs without bringing a book into the room with them. I finally found one!
I called Dayton South Veterinary Clinic in tears just hours away from putting my Guinea Pig to sleep. The staff had me an appointment with the hour to see Roger.. My old vet can't do that, even when my guinea pig had an URI.
I will be forever grateful to Dr. Brauer for saving Roger's life. Most people say, He's just a guinea pig. But to us, he's a memeber of the family. And that's how he was treated. We have found a new vet for all our pets. A MILLION THANKS!!

I had been trying for some time to get into another vet but appointments were at least a week away. So I called Wilderness Animal Hospital. They are a lil ways from where we live but I have no doubt that we will be keeping them as our vet. They were able to get us in right away. The vet seemed very knowledgeable about guinea pigs and their vet care.

He took the time to look at all my concerns and checked my piggie over very well. He made sure that I had all my questions answered. They staff was also extremely nice even when dealing with an unhappy customer. With that being said I would highly recommend them but I can't say that they are the best priced. I would rather be able to get my pig in and pay more than wait and something seriously be wrong.

Dr. Z, who sees guinea pigs on a daily basis, gently drained the lump and explained what it was and what caused it. As for the UTI, he said since his bladder was full, he might've been misdiagnosed as those with UTI would have empty bladders due to constant urination.

Overall, great experience! My pet was handled very gently and all my questions were answered!

In the past three years, I have lost two beloved friends as a result of Irene Cote's diagnostic ineptitude and lack of in-depth knowledge regarding guinea pigs - not to mention a front office staff that is alternately unresponsive, clueless, and/or unwilling to "bother" the doctor regarding questions, concerns, emergent situations and follow-up care. I have paid dearly both financially and emotionally for the gross errors made by Cote and her staff.

Two years ago, I lost one guinea pig due to Cote's errors in judgment, after spending over a thousand dollars for what I thought was adequate care. What I have since learned: The care was not adequate, by any measure.

Today, after three office visits in the past week with another guinea pig, staying up for several days to attend to her round-the-clock care, and administering a prescription by Cote that caused more problems than it solved (and, as it turns out, is no better than placebo according to three published medical studies), and *then* making five phone calls to the office seeking some sort of guidance and getting no response whatsoever, I will burying another one of Dr. Cote's patients - a most beloved companion who needlessly died in my arms just over an hour ago. I am heartbroken. This did not have to happen.

If you love your exotic animal companion, save your money - and possibly your animal's life - and seek care elsewhere.

I have not taken my guinea pigs here (I recommend Madison Avenue Veterinary Clinic in Fair Oaks), but I have taken many other animals, like dogs and horses, here over the years. They are VERY hit and miss. Their staff is so large and diverse you almost never know what you're going to get. Some of the doctors are fantastic, and some you never want to see again. Overall their care is very good. Their hospital is popular for a reason! I would just recommend only going under a personal recommendation for the particular vet you are going to see. And if you do get a lousy visit, it may not be representative of what you may get the next time.
